The SSTC Welding Inspector Qualification Examination provide a means for a steel erector to test, qualify and document those personnel, including inspectors, responsible for the quality of the work. The following is from the Program Guidelines for AISC’s Steel Erector certification program, available here:
“6.1.6 Training
The company shall document the training and skill levels of its employees through completion of training programs and/or field experience.”
and
“8.2.2 Employ a welding technician on staff knowledgeable in welding and code requirements and capable of writing and overseeing welding procedures.”
The following is from the Audit Checklist for AISC’s Certified Steel Erector program, available here:
“Op13, (NC) 4, 6.1.6, 7.1
Are job site superintendents and foremen conversant with current workmanship requirements such as those contained in AWS, AREMA, AISC, or other specifications?”
and
“Op39, (C) 6, 6.1.3, 6.1.4
Is a quality control program in effect to allow management to assess whether work is being performed according to specifications?”
